To make it easier for you we listed our top 10 Auckland events for a perfect summer.

1. ASB Classic

See some of the world’s best tennis players compete at the 2018 ASB Classic from the 1st–13th January and sample some of Auckland’s best food off court. Top Tips in Auckland

Auckland is built around the water and there are plenty of options to explore Auckland’s beautiful harbour. Options include a Harbour Cruise, a ferry over to Devonport, a ferry to Rangitoto or Waiheke Island, enjoying a romantic dinner cruise, experiencing an Americas Cup Yacht, up close viewing on a Whale and Dolphin Safari, or the extreme thrills of a Jet Boat Tour. The viaduct harbour where all of these attractions begin is just a ten minute walk from the lobby.
While going out on the harbour is a must there are plenty of reasons to stay on dry land also. The waterfront has a great variety of top class restaurants with beautiful views and Wynyard Quarter is a great place for a drink or a nice walk. Silo Park has open air movies all summer long, and Viaduct Harbour is also home to the Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum where you can learn about New Zealand’s seafaring history. A short taxi or a 15 to 20 minute walk will take you to Wynyard Quarter and Silo Park from the hotel.
For the best views of Auckland you can’t beat a trip up the Sky Tower. At 328 metres high, the Sky Tower is the tallest building in New Zealand – and the Southern Hemisphere. Step out of the hotel and you are just one block from the base of the Sky Tower.
Watching the All Blacks play rugby at Eden Park is a right of passage for every New Zealander, catch them playing Wales on 11 June, 2016. Other great matches to see are the Warriors playing at Mt. Smart Stadium or the Blues at Eden Park. Public transport or taxis make it very easy to get to stadiums on match day.
Experiencing the Maori culture in New Zealand is very special. Explore Auckland on a Maori Tour learning about the history of New Zealand including a traditional Haka war dance and a Maori Cultural Performance.
While in Auckland you can’t miss the opportunity of exploring the West Coast with its black sand beaches, big waves and beautiful native bush. Piha, Muriwai and Bethells beach are the most popular to visit. Getting to these beaches is best by car or by arranging a Bush and Beach Tour as it is approximately 45 minutes from the hotel.
Some of the best places to visit in Auckland are free! The Auckland Domain, 15 minutes walk from the hotel, is in the centre of the city and also home to the Auckland Museum. Mt Eden and Cornwall Park are both close to the city and two of the most impressive volcanic cones in the city, reachable by car in 15 to 20 minutes. On the North Shore in Devonport, North Head is a great vantage point of the city and its World War Two gun tunnels are fun to explore.

Training for the ASB Auckland Marathon

Running in Auckland

Training for the ASB Auckland Marathon can be a fun way to explore Auckland!

Training for a marathon or even a half marathon is not for the faint hearted. It requires preparation, dedication, passion and perseverance. At times it can be a painful and arduous task but getting the needed kilometers in can also be a very fun way to explore some of the beautiful sights that Auckland has to offer. Crowne Plaza Auckland has partnered with the ASB Auckland Marathon and is excited to share some of our training experiences. Win a ticket for any disatance by following instructions at the end of this blog.

<img class="resizeImg aligncenter" src=" look at this″ alt=”running auckland maraton piha lions rock” width=”704″ height=”400″ />

Get off the streets and onto the trails.

If you are a busy professional then you will most likely be limited to running the streets of your neighbourhood during the week. You might also be limited to running them in darkness. Especially during winter!

When the weekend comes around and you are planning your long run, make things interesting and get onto the Hilary Trail in the Waitakere RangesThe Hilary trail is an almost 80km track from Titirangi to Muriwai through the beautiful Waitakere Ranges. You will follow a rugged route under the cover of Kauri trees and climb to many peaks overlooking the sprawling West Coast.

The sights, sounds and smells will distract you from the hard work you are doing.

During your run you will get some serious altitude! The climbs and stairs will give your legs the strengthening they need to run a faster full or half marathon. Don’t attempt everything all at once, conquer chunks at a time and always come back for more.

Running in Auckland

Stay in the centre of it all.

If you are travelling to Auckland for the ASB Auckland Marathon then you might want to explore the streets you will race on ahead of time. Make it a full weekend of training and take advantage of Crowne Plaza Auckland’s special rates for marathon runners on the weekends leading up to the Auckland Marathon. Enjoy some West Coast trails on Saturday and the beautiful Auckland Waterfront on Sunday.
